The brown appearance of unbleached rolling paper can make it look simple at first glance, but there is a difference between looking natural and being poorly made. The colour is often a result of retaining more of the paper’s natural fibre character rather than bleaching it to achieve a bright white appearance. That gives the paper its familiar earthy tone, while the rest of the manufacturing process still determines its texture, strength and consistency.

• THE FEEL: A natural appearance doesn’t tell you exactly how a paper will perform. The texture and weight still matter when you’re actually using it.
